As the economy continues to show few signs of improvement, Washington needs to restore balance to the regulatory process, writes NFIB Missouri state director Brad Jones in the Springfield News Leader:
The U.S. economy is stalling. Week after week, month after month, economic reports reinforce this alarming reality.
Here in our state, unemployment remains above 7 percent, and there are few signs that things are improving.
Missouri’s small-business community is facing some of its most daunting challenges in recent years, underscored by a looming regulatory tidal wave. The rate of complex, new regulations coming out of Washington is restricting small businesses’ ability to create jobs and help the economy rebound from the financial downturn of the last few years.
With fewer resources and tighter profit margins, small businesses have felt the slump of the economy more acutely than most. Yet Washington bureaucrats continue demanding more from small businesses at a time when they should be focused on recovery and growth.
