America’s Small Business Owners Want Regulatory Reform

Wednesday, 15 August 2012

Small Businesses for Sensible Regulations‘ launch of www.StopTheTidalWave.org in different states over the past few weeks has been a great opportunity to hear from small business owners about the impact federal regulations have on their businesses.

Here are what small businesses owners across the country are saying about regulations:

Florida – Jerry Pierce, of Winter Park, said: “These regulations are stifling Florida’s small-business community. I am the owner of Restaurant Equipment World in Orlando, and I have experienced an exponential increase in regulations over the past few years. Compliance has become a major part of my day-to-day work when my time should be focused on running my business.”

Missouri – Dave Griggs, who owns a business called Flooring America, said the increased regulations raise costs for businesses and in turn, those costs must be passed along. He said: “My customer has to pay that. Government doesn’t care what the customer has to pay.”

Nevada - Buddy Byrd, owner of Byrd Underground Construction, said: “We just can’t continue to go down this path and employ people and give them jobs when there is no profit after they regulate us and regulate us and regulate us,”

Virginia – Joe Wilson, who owns Perma – Treat Pest Control, noted: “OSHA regulations, especially the ones that have come out recently, are really confusing the way they are written. You really have to study to figure out whether you are covered or not by these regulations and that is a huge problem for small businesses.”
