The efforts of private industry, particularly small businesses, will be the vehicle of long-term economic recovery, writes Sensible Regulations member and small business owner Kirk Meurer in the Cleveland Plains Dealer. He notes:
Recently, President Barack Obama carefully explained his economic vision for the future. His plan addressed many important considerations, but his message seems to overemphasize the role government will play in long-term economic recovery. True growth, I believe, will begin on the shoulders of hardworking private citizens.
I’ve owned a commercial furniture installation company in Cleveland for 14 years. Never has my economic outlook been so grim. Even as we struggle with day-to-day business challenges, it seems the government keeps putting more barriers in our way through more complex regulations and other controls.
